School Mental Health Award

Silver Mental Health Award 2025

At Brimrod Community School, mental health and wellbeing (MHWB) is at the centre of everything we do. Over the last three years, we’ve made great progress in supporting the wellbeing of our pupils, staff, and families – and we’re proud to have been awarded Silver by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools.

The award report praised our leadership and vision, stating:

"The culture of staff MHWB has strengthened over the last 3 years."

Staff wellbeing is a top priority. We offer mental health support, counselling, flexible working, and regular wellbeing check-ins. Staff told us they feel supported, valued, and listened to. One of our proudest achievements is the introduction of a new leadership role focused on Health and Outdoor Learning.

Our pupils benefit from a strong PSHE curriculum, mindfulness sessions, wellbeing assemblies, worry boxes, and clubs like Brimrod Buddies. For children who need extra support, we offer sessions such as Lego therapy, messy play, and social stories.

“Clear, supportive systems and processes are well-embedded to ensure pupils are safe and their needs are noticed and addressed.”

We also work closely with families through parent workshops, regular communication, and access to helpful resources. Our partnerships with organisations like CAMHS, Educational Psychologists, and Rochdale Healthy Schools help us offer the very best support to our whole community.

Importantly, our work is now helping other schools too.

"Schools in Rochdale, Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, Lancaster and Dubai have reported impact by accessing the school’s website."

Next, we’re looking forward to launching a wellbeing podcast, expanding our Wellbeing Ambassador programme, and continuing to share our resources with other schools.

“I have no hesitation in recommending Brimrod Community School for the Silver Award.”

We’re proud to be a school that takes mental health seriously – for everyone in our community.
