Early English Parent/Child Sessions - Reception
Early English sessions for parents, run in partnership with the local council, are friendly and informal sessions designed to support families in helping their children develop early language, reading and writing skills. Parents are shown simple, practical ways to support phonics, early reading, talking and writing at home through everyday activities such as stories, songs and play. The sessions also help parents understand what children learn in Reception, building confidence and strengthening the important link between home and school.
The photographs below show parents and children working together and:
- Making puppets to support story sharing
- Making and using an I Spy tube to support phonics learning
- Using phonics letter fans to practise letter recognition (phoneme and grapheme matching)
- Making a touch and feel book using a variety of textures. Children developing their vocabulary to find the appropriate adjective to describe each texture
